"About the Music Learning Workshop"
Hello
So you might be wondering
about the Music Learning
Workshop. Well Hi, my name is Brad Chidester, and I am the President
and Owner of the
Music Learning Workshop. The us or we at the workshop refers to my
spouse, child, and my associates that support the content and
production of the site.
I am the primarily provider of the content and commentary within the
site and hope that you find it of value. As the community grows I hope
to add special associates that will contribute to our pursuit of music
learning.
I've been studying music seriously for over 15
years. I had originally
started like so many others back in middle school and given up due to
lack of will and good habits. I muddled along for many years and could
play simple rock and roll and a few favorite songs of the 70's and
80's.
My Passion and Education
I'm glad I got back on track with a passion I love some couple of
decades later.
When I started again I was researching learning methods and ended up
with an excellent educator (you will find more information about her at the megalearning page) which provided
accelerating learning methods. It is her inspiration and
others that has lead me to create this site.
Second, is that of another educator that is having a profound influence
on me and the works that I am creating here. This is my jazz teacher.
He has taken the foundation of theory and performance techniques that I
have built and added the jazz dimension to that. Some incredible
learning has taken place with his mentoring.
The Journey
There are two things in my music journey that stand out. The first was
the day I performed Mozart's Rondo in Am at our student concert.
Notice I said concert not recital. This is one of those little hidden
messages and techniques that make a difference. Perception can be
everything.
It was a major feat performing that 13 minute piece of work.
Flawlessly? No way, but more than satisfactory in my book. I was on top
of the world that day. Thank you Donna, I still get a little chocked up
about it to this day.
The second is was when I played for 27 minutes straight in a concert
performance of Beethoven's Sonata Pathique. Yes all three movements.
What
a feeling of accomplishment. I worked almost exclusively on that piece
of music for a year.
Talent by Force
You see I don't have the natural talent that many I meet do. I have to
practice diligently to be able to accomplish playing with proficiency.
What has made the difference for me is that my background is in
engineering and so I have a slant to the logical and mathematical. That
is what much of the concepts of this site are based on.
What I have learned from these teachers and the ability to assimilate
theory and logical progression I am creating a site that will support
the student and the educator with methods and techniques I have learned
over the years. This will be the basis of the music learning workshop.
Tools
Let's acknowledge that many of the tools that will be provided here are
just that, tools. The personal attention you receive from a mentor or
educator can be priceless. Having good tools to back that up
is what can make the difference in your speed and progression of
learning music. Hopefully that is what we can provide here.
Our theme is going to be "Getting It Down Cold" the information I
provide here will be produced on that basis. The products we product
will be workshop type material with that goal in mind.
