Guitar Courses and Methods
Resources for
Learning your Guitar
Learning Guitar Options
At the Music Learning Workshop we are primarily
focused on music theory. Although our monthly music theory course will
apply to all instruments, the specific technique used to play the
guitar requires a different set of instruction to accomplish. We have
summarized several guitar courses and methods to help you in
that
aspect of your study.
When using these guitar programs you should be learning
music theory
along
the way. The only caution I will give you is the more theory
you
can get the quicker the better you will become as a
musician.
Ramping up
your
playing and knowledge with tips and tricks is fine, but there is no
substitute for
knowing the principals of music for which to take these tips and apply
them. That's why I've tried to find a few that offer more than just the
tricks.
Take a look at the different options and visit the
sites
to get more details. Ask yourself if this is what your looking for now
and
will you put in the time to improve your skills. If so, consider
giving them a try.
Guitar Courses and Methods
Jamorama
This is one of the most popular courses for guitar
on the Internet. Here's a program for guitar learners and players with a wealth of instruction. There are different options, see them here: Jamorama Options.
Guitar Scale Mastery
Here's a program for guitar players that I can highly
recommend if your looking for guitar courses. The reason why is that it's geared towards
theory and
application of scales. If you followed any of my writings you will
understand that I'm a big advocate of scales as they lead you to the
promise land of music.
Everything you study in the advanced application
of scales and chords is where the really complex and interesting music
comes from.
Craig Bassett has a membership site that is all
about getting you up to speed on learning, using, and playing the
guitar
through the use of scales. What's nice is that it's a one time fee for
a three year membership. You have to give up just one of those premium
cups of coffee a month to afford this. Easy peasy.
You get a 3 year Premium Membership to Guitar
Scale Mastery for the one-time small investment
of: $67 (US
Dollars)
Look, you may not need this to truly succeed on the guitar, but I'm
encouraging you to take a look for yourself. Check it
out over here at: Guitar Scale Mastery!
Music Master
Pro - Guitar, Bass, Drums!
Music
master Pro has lots of video to teach guitar, bass, and drums. They
charge a
low one time fee to get access to all the videos. It's somewhat
structured but also you can get to anything you are interested in at
the moment. They have been running an under $30 special which should make this a great value for picking up on some technique
and skill improvement.
Because they cover bass and drums, you
also get the opportunity to understand what your fellow band members
should be learning as well. This will be helpful in your understanding
of building off the root note and rhythm. You'll be hit up for
other
products they sell, but if you
are
on a really tight budget and want video instruction on playing your
guitar this option should provide you with some good instruction. I'm
not thrilled with there site organization, but it is manageable. Visit
their site at: Music Master Pro.

Licks - Modern Country and Blues Vol 3

I'm always torn between learning to do your own style licks through
learning the theory behind the scales and chords and just learning what
others have done before. Problem is it can be the chicken and the egg
thing that gets in the way.
So the compromise I take is in learning those licks and then playing
with them to make my own interpretation . So where to start...
Doug Seven has a video and dvd and instruction on learning the style
and giving you some tools and know to be a picken' fool. Very
inexpensive and if you get two or three things from Doug it will be
well worth your money.

Guitar and Piano Chords Parallel
I've been asked about doing guitar and piano chords together to show them in the thoery course. An undertaking like that created a problem in trying to accomodate everyones instrument and was going to provide more confusion that clearification in trying to make a music theory course usable for all.
ENTER A Great Reference book: Guitar and Piano Chords in Parallel
This e-book was conceived with three basic goals in mind:
-
To provide comprehensive selection of basic chords (well over one hundred).
- To explain the chords in a easily to both beginners and advanced players.
- To depict them for guitar and piano, side-by-side, in parallel, while acknowledging the strengths and weaknesses of both instruments.
Piano chords are shown based on the standard Guitar voicings (arrangement of notes in the chord), in order to provide the most accurate translation.
If you want a good reference which pairs up guitar and piano chords, with prices starting as low as $7, this is a reference you will want to add to your collection.

Think You Know
Strings?
Not one of the guitar courses, but this
is an interesting branding of a product by "Professor String"
which offers a book on strings from
history, manufacture, types, thickness, and a bunch of other stuff you
should get to know about.
One
of the things that you have to do is care and work with your guitar.
Here's a nice thing, you can get to know all about guitar
strings in one simple ebook on the string issues of
today.
ASI - Do you know anything
about it? If you were like me I said "say
what?" It's Advanced
String Intonation. I haven't even seen
anything written
about this subject. This is actually a subject you don't want to ignore
if you're become a great player.
With advanced digital tuners, ASI has
become more prevalent to your tuning. This is the only book you will
find on the market that covers the issues of ASI.
If you are serious about playing in tune, you must get this book and
read the ASI chapter.
Who should
get this book and learn about strings and ASI?
1. Guitarist and bassists constantly battling tuning stability.
2. Guitarist who wish to record in tune.
3. Musicians who are meticulous about their guitars.
One of the things I struggled with was trying to figure out what
strings were best for my guitar. Having a little bit of knowledge about
this sure would have saved me some grief when I was buying replacement
strings. Now you'll know which questions to ask.
