There are a few pieces of guitar software that are worth exploring. I've found a few that are worthy of your consideration. Looking for more, if you have some you like let me know.

Riff Master Pro QuickBeat
Guitar Assault - 66 Licks Guitar Chord Legend
Guitar Scale Method Pro

Riff Master Pro

If you've been listening to your favorite song and trying to figure out that really cool riff, but just can't seem to figure it out...

I have some great news for you. The guys over at RiffMasterpro.com have just released RMP 3.

The new version not only takes a guitar solo or riff and slows it down but it retains the pitch so you can play along.

The new version also includes:

  • CD ripping
  • File saving to mp3 or wav (yes as slowed down versions)
  • Superior tracking
  • New playable files (mp4, wma, Aff, ogg mp3 and wav + 15 others)

This makes this a great aid in helping you learn and dig out some of those cool passages you like so well. Not all of us have the ability to play or figure out what we hear. I've struggled with this a lot and though I'm getting better I used this type of software on some things that really made it easy to pick up on what was being played.

Here's one of the how to videos so you can get an idea of how this software works.

Guitar Assault

pick-guitar-scaleGuitar Assault is a software based program to teach you increased improvisation skills and building blocks for increasing your playing ability.

Caution about using this software is you can get into the mimic mode and forget to take advantage of the how to do your own thing. Learn what it teaches you then apply it to other combinations of notes.

Learning to apply these techniques to your own style will greatly improve your worth to your audience and your fellow musicians. There are several videos at the sells page that give you an idea of how this works. If you use all 66 licks you will learn them for less than a dollar each. Now that's a bargain.

Guitar Scales Method Professional

pick-guitar-scaleScale Training Software for Guitar and more

I ran across this one when I was researching a good guitar scales learning option. If you like using your computer this scale software is handy. It's fairly value loaded, but no bonus material or fluff with this one.

Scale patterns, arpeggios, and other simple and effective exercises included in GSM will help you build the kind of serious "chops" you need to turn the flow of ideas in your mind into a flow of notes on your guitar.

They have a free trial so you can check it out before you buy. At $49 it's a more pricey than others I've seen, but it comes with enough instruction that it's worth the cost. It has a 3 month money-back guarantee as well.

Guitar Chord Legend
